You can easily use the Cha Cha Slide dance to lose weight. I have incorporated this dance song into the “line dance” theme night of my dance aerobic class and everyone loves it. The cha cha slide is a song and dance made popular by a DJ named Casper who originally made the song as a workout routine for a friend of his at a fitness center. The song is an upbeat urban rendition of the “hokey pokey” with moves similar to the electric slide dance. To do this dance, all that is needed is for you to follow the instructions that Casper is calling out throughout the song. It incorporates jumping, stomping, hip twisting and sliding which all make for an excellent aerobic workout.
Use the Extended Version
There is an extended version of the Cha Cha Slide dance song that is perfect if you want to lose weight. This is the version I use in my classes to help get a full aerobic workout. This version is approximately seven to eight minutes long which gives you a good chance to bring up your heart rate and get in a good cardiovascular routine.
Use the Club Mix
The club mix of the song is a little faster than the original version. This rendition gives a higher impact workout by forcing you to stay on beat and do the dance moves at a faster pace. This version is a good choice if you’re really looking to work up a sweat and burn more calories.
Make Big Movements
To maximize the amount of calories you burn during the song, make your moves big and full. Making bigger moves takes more energy and strength and burns more calories than making smaller moves.
Add in other songs
If you’re aiming for a total workout, add in at least two other songs to the Cha Cha Slide. It’s a good idea to incorporate a warm up song before the Cha Cha Slide and a cool down song after it. You want to make sure that your total workout time is at least 20 minutes if you’re dancing to lose weight.
Cut Back Your Caloric and Fat Intake
If you’re using the Cha Cha Slide dance to lose weight, you will increase your chances of success if you decrease the amount of calories and fat you eat. This is necessary no matter what form of weight loss you indulge in. Bake your foods instead of frying them, cut back on red meats, increase the amount of vegetables you eat and drink at least 8-10 glasses of water. Healthy eating habits coupled with your Cha Cha Slide workout will make for a successful weight loss routine.
